Julia Jurgens TEACHER OF THE YEAR

EXAMPLE

Lomita STEAM
Magnet School

Jorge Olmos

Principal

One look at her yearbook photo and you immediately know Julie Jurgens is a bold, fun and loving person who wears her heart on her sleeve. Julie is an amazing person who cares about students and people, which is precisely why for the last three years she has been such an asset to Lomita STEAM Magnet as a special education teacher and for being in the service of others. She has a genuine desire to help both students and adults.

The children in Ms. Jurgens’ class are not only meeting their academic needs, but they are also well loved and cared for. They feel safe and part of a school family. Despite the challenges her students and their families face, she has demonstrated remarkable skills in reaching out to both students and their families in an upbeat and positive manner that evokes confidence that their partnership will ensure their child’s success. Her bubbly attitude is matched by her actions in often speaking with parents over the phone, in person and sometimes off campus to make it easy on the parents.

Ms. Jurgens also helps lead the social committee to create a school-wide climate of family. She is always smiling, warm and encouraging to everyone with a style that is very uplifting and motivating. On many occasions she has led with dance or song and her co-workers all appreciate her giving and fun-loving attitude. Through this, she impacts all students and ensures that they have happy memories at Lomita STEAM Magnet.

Ms. Jurgens also took on the calling of being our school’s union representative. As the union representative, she has a nurturing manner that allows her to tend to her flock. During the challenges LAUSD teachers faced in January, she went to many of the local businesses to ask for their support and of course whole-heartedly they donated. As a result, our teachers were well fed and cared for. Ms. Jurgens with her gift of gab even managed to inspire a brand new local tavern to unofficially open their doors before the scheduled opening day, so our flock of teachers would have a place to refresh themselves after a long week of weathering a storm with dancing and singing in the streets.

Daily she inspires knowledge, strength and honor with faith, hope and love.
